Elvis Costello defends Olivia Rodrigo over Brutal copying declare | Ents & Arts Information

Elvis Costello has defended teenage star Olivia Rodrigo over an accusation that she copied one in all his songs.

Brutal, a monitor on Rodrigo’s chart-topping album Bitter, sounds much like a riff that featured in Costello’s 1978 monitor Pump It Up.

Veteran singer-songwriter Costello stepped in to defend the younger star after a Twitter person described her monitor as “just about a direct raise”.

“That is wonderful by me,” Costello replied. “It is how rock and roll works. You are taking the damaged items of one other thrill and make a model new toy.”

Referencing Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues and Chuck Berry’s Too A lot Monkey Enterprise, he added: “That is what I did. #subterreaneanhomesickblues #toomuchmonkeybusiness.”

Costello’s assist for Rodrigo, the younger star who just lately topped each the singles and album charts within the UK for the third time, got here after a remark was made on the songs’ similarities in response to a separate accusation of plagiarism, made by Courtney Love.

Love has identified similarities between pictures launched to advertise Rodrigo’s Bitter Promenade, a brand new live performance movie, and the quilt art work for her band Gap’s 1994 album Reside By way of This.

“Spot the distinction! #twinning,” Love mentioned in a publish on her social media platforms, sharing the picture of Rodrigo.

However in response to feedback on her publish on Fb, Love made it clear she is not blissful, saying: “Stealing an authentic concept and never asking permission is impolite.”

Rodrigo has not commented on the claims.
