Lord Digby Jones has reiterated his criticism over Alex Scott’s punditry for the BBC on the Olympics, saying his opposition to her work “has received nothing to do together with her upbringing”.
The previous Labour minister was accused of “misplaced snobbery” after an outburst on Twitter during which he criticised Scott for a “very noticeable incapability to pronounce her ‘g’s on the finish of a phrase.”
Scott, who performed 140 occasions for England girls’s soccer staff, hit again by saying that she comes from a working class household in London and is “happy with my accent”.
Talking to LBC, Lord Digby criticised the sportswoman’s defence, saying “this is not about regional accents”.

“I feel her presentation could be very, superb,” the previous member of the Home of Lords stated.
“I object strongly to her enjoying the category card as effectively.
“This has received nothing to do together with her upbringing.
“She met enormous adversity, she met monumental challenges – she’s come by way of it, she’s captained the England girls’s soccer staff.
“She’s making a profession within the media extraordinarily efficiently.
“It is received nothing to do with any of that, that is about not accent. This is not about regional accents. This is not about being a Cockney.
“I am a Brummie, you realize, I am delighted that they put extra regional accents onto nationwide media.
“It is about the truth that she is improper.
“You don’t pronounce the English language ending in a ‘g’ with out the ‘g’.
“And I do not need her as a task mannequin – and she or he is one and a superb one – I do not need her to [be] influencing, particularly girls, however actually all younger folks to suppose that it’s totally modern to go round dropping your Gs.
“I am not getting at her, particularly, any greater than [Sky News political editor] Beth Rigby, or certainly [home secretary] Priti Patel.
“It’s simply improper.”
The disagreement began when he tweeted: “Sufficient! I am unable to stand it anymore!”
He added: “Rivals are NOT collaborating, Alex, within the fencin, rowin, boxin, kayakin, weightliftin & swimmin.”
Scott replied: “I am from a working class household in East London, Poplar, Tower Hamlets & I’m PROUD.
“Pleased with the younger lady who overcame obstacles, and happy with my accent!”
She added: “By no means enable judgments in your class, accent, or look maintain you again.”
Lord Digby went on to say on LBC that he revered the fitting of individuals to disagree with him, however that the distinction “doesn’t suggest I needs to be cancelled, and it doesn’t suggest that folks need to be extremely impolite”.
